I was trying to find something to blog about, and I have ran out of ideas, so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I have had people in the past not be able to understand what I am saying because of my accent, and I talk fast, which is okay...I guess. If you can't understand me please just tell me to slow down and pronounce my words more clearly. I know I am also bad about "making up words". I don't think it's "made up" if other people from the south understand. Here is a mini dictionary of some of the words you may hear in the south!
A- a prefix added to the present to make it sound prettier. "Abe's a-workin in backer today; Ma's a-talikin to you son!!"
Agonna- This word is future tense! "I'm agonna get you if you dont quit messing with my dog"
Backer- A large cultivated weed you can smoke legally. (Southerns don't get all excited about the syllable in front of the accented one)
Bless your heart- a nice expletive expressing approval or encouragement.
Bob War- A twisted wire studded with barbs. Usage- "Boy, stay away from that bob war fence!"
Bobby Q- A delicious meat dish made from pulled pork roasted over hickory wood and doused with red pepper boiled in vinegar.
Booger- Nose stuffing, or a rascal. "Come here you little booger!"
Britches- Anything worn over the legs, pants or overalls.
Caint- Can not
Coon- Racoon
Holler- Yell or talk at the top of your voice.
Purty- another word for pretty.
Sugar- another way of asking for kisses, "come over here and give me some sugar!"
Tawk- a way of communicating by using words.
Yall- the plural of you.
Hope you enjoyed my blog!! Let me know if I missed any words!!!
Xoxo,
Lindsey
